An Interview with Sophia Elrae

Tell us a little bit about you and your family.

My name is Sophia, and I am 27 years young! My husband is currently deployed and flying Blackhawk helicopters for the army. We have two girls: Beatrice (5) and Elouise (2) they truly are the light of our lives! We live in Minnesota and dream of making a big move to the West coast someday, such as Oregon or Washington.

How long have you been on Instagram, and how did you get started as an influencer?

I started my Instagram four years ago as a way to document my life and all the special moments. I started as an influencer reaching out to small companies and asking if they would like to collaborate! I worked with many small brands until I started getting reached out to by bigger companies. I asked a lot of questions to fellow influencers I was following, and I gained some insight on how to collaborate and work with more companies!

Do you have any advice for those of us just starting out and struggling with growth?

I think for people starting out on Instagram when I did I would have said “just be you” and “stand out.” I think it’s a lot harder now for those just starting because the industry is so highly saturated with with influencers and bloggers. My advice would be to really hone into what your passionate about, what you will bring to the table, and what you can do to maintain your uniqueness but also be willing to take risks and create really unique content.

What would you say is the #1 key to success?

Believing in yourself and your work!

What has been your biggest challenge?

Honestly, really figuring out the balance of what my audience wants to see and what I want to put out there as well.

How do you balance family life with the pressures of engaging on social media?

I feel like I’ve learned a lot about that this year! You will never have enough time in the day to engage and comment and respond to everything! If anything when you have a family they come first. I would encourage you to carve out “insta time” whether that’s 30-40 minutes during nap or before bedtime, figure out what works for you and leaves you feeling excited about your work and not drained.

Where do you find inspiration for your creative process?

Mostly nature! I’d say most of my photos are taken outside as I feel most inspired among trees, water, and landscape!

How do you capture the pictures you’re in?

I have help from family and friends. 🙂

Do you have any tips on developing a unique style and consistent look to your feed?

I think just really focusing on your dream colors, and from there making sure your tones are similar for each edit! I really love using apps that help me organize my feed and play around with it like a puzzle. I use “preview.”

What is coming up next for you?

My blog is and up next for me is the release of my mobile presets! I already have my desktop version presets for sale on my blog but also wanted to provide these presets for those editing strictly on their phones! You can find my presets here:
